On Wednesday 27 November 2024, the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, attended the DV-Day for FTX “CLIMATE CHANGE DISASTER RESPONSE CASTLE 24” (CCDR CASTLE-24) in Camp “TAGMATARHI XIROGIANNI ANDREA”, which is the base of the 871st Base Fuel Supply Depot, in Aspropyrgos, Attica. Personnel of the Armed forces (Hellenic National Defence, Army, Navy, and Air Force General Staffs, and Special Warfare Command) participated in the event, as well as jointly competent institutions (Hellenic Police and Fire service), Units of the Higher Army Support Command “THISSEAS”, civilian institutions and companies.
FTX “CLIMATE CHANGE DISASTER RESPONSE CASTLE 24” (CCDR CASTLE-24) is an international exercise that is carried out in the framework of cooperation with national and international Civil Protection and Security Forces institutions. It aims at testing Plans – Memoranda – Actions that regard the contribution of the Armed Forces in facing natural disasters, as well as their consequences within military facilities. Egypt, France, the USA, Jordan, Italy, Cyprus, and Romania participated as observers.
- During the FTX, the participants had the opportunity to train in wildfire confrontation scenarios both inside and outside the Camp area, personnel evacuation, suspicious object location during firebreak creation, First Aid provision, and air transportation of injured people, with the aim of improving the operational readiness of the Armed Forces, coordination among the institutions responsible, and the promotion of the capabilities of the Armed Forces in the field of Civil Protection.

- The Chief of Staff of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Vakedis.
- The Commander of the Navy Aircraft Squadron, Captain Athanasios Tsolis HN, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras HN, and the Commanding General of the Hellenic Air Force Support Command, Lieutenant General (HAF) Apostolos Hortis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Lieutenant General (HAF) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis.
- The Director of West Attica Police Directorate, Colonel (Hellenic Police) Georgios Barkas, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Police, Lieutenant General (Hellenic Police) Dimitrios Mallios. Captain (Coast Guard) Vasilios Bikakis, as representative of the Chief of Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral (Coast Guard) Georgios Alexandrakis. The Commanding General of West Attica Fire Service, Brigadier General (Fire Service) Petros Bougias, as representative of the Chief of Fire Service, Lieutenant General (Fire Service) Theodoros Vagias.
