On Friday 15 November 2024, in the presence of the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff General Dimitrios Choupis and the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, a one-day conference was co-hosted at the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) with the University of Piraeus, on the subject “Defence Innovation and Industry Funding”.
The goal of the Conference was to promote the capabilities and opportunities for funding in the field of defence innovation and industry, the briefing of the personnel on the funding programmes available, their utilisation strategies and the examination of offered perspectives for the enhancement of technological and operational development in the defence sector.
During the commencement of the Conference’s proceedings, brief addresses were given by the Chief of HNDGS General Dimitrios Choupis, the Chief of HAGS Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Commandant of the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon) Major General Anastasios Polychronos, the Academy’s Dean and Professor Mr Kaimakamis Georgios, the Dean of the University of Piraeus Mr Michail Sfakianakis, the Professor and member of the Board of Executives of the University of Piraeus – Director of the FinTechQF Lab. Mr Nikolaos Kourogenis and the Chief Executive Officer of the Hellenic Centre for Defence Innovation (HCDI) Mr Pandelis Tzortzakis.
Other attendees at the Conference were the MP Ms Irini Kasimati, the Archimandrite Chrysostomos as representative of the Metropolitan Bishop of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Vari, the Honorary Chiefs of HNGS Admiral (retired) Nikolaos Tsounis and Admiral (retired) Stylianos Petrakis, the Army Inspector General – Commanding General of Doctrine and Training Lieutenant General Spyridon Alfandakis, Rear Admiral Vasilios Vasilogiannakopoulos HN as representative of the Chief of HNGS Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras HN, Major General Georgios Georgiadis as representative of the Chief of HAFGS Lieutenant General Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, Officers and NCOs, as well as other guests.
Speeches were made by the member of the Board of Executives of the HCDI Mr Panagiotis Papageorgiou, the Director of the F Branch of HNDGS Major General Georgios Panousis, the General Director of GDDIA Major General Ioannis Bouras and the Head of the Research, Technology and Innovation Directorate of the European Defence Agency Mr Panagiotis Kikiras.
